TRAVEL JOURNAL: KENT TO SCOTLAND 2024
Jack and I thought it would be a great idea to travel to Scotland in October last year (the beginning of winter… what could go wrong?!) and so we took a two week trip from Kent to Scotland and back again, stopping off along the way. In this post, we travel to the Lake District and upwards to Scotland alongside Loch Lomond.
Scotland had been high on my bucket list for a long time and I was super excited to go! I love planning and I love to travel to new places so the whole experience was fun. As we were driving the whole time, we thought that doing the trip in two weeks would be best for being able to see everything we wanted to see and also allowing us to rest in-between long drives.
We decided to do a mixture of airbnb, camping and hotels. Our first stop was in the Lake District and we had spent two nights here in a Shepherds Hut. It’s one of those places that people always recommend and I can see why- if you’re into nature, this place is for you! It was super cosy and perfect for what we needed, especially after the long drive on the first day and after a day of exploring the next day. We went to Lake Windermere and it’s such a beautiful place- even in October! We were very lucky with the weather that day and I didn’t really think about how big the lake would be until we got there, it was beautiful! I would definitely want to go back at some point during the warmer months and spend a bit more time there to explore. We were spoilt with food and although Jack immediately came down with a cold the first night we were away, we had a great time exploring!
On our way up to the Ben Nevis campsite in Scotland, we stopped at a few places along the way including the super pretty village of Luss in Scotland. This is situated on the west bank of Loch Lomond and has a lovely cafe called the Coach house coffee shop. So naturally, we went for some coffee and cake, then a little stroll down to the Loch. Again, such a beautiful place, I recommend it if you’re having a long drive and would like to be able to take in some scenery along the way!
We carried onward towards Ben Nevis but along the way there are many opportunities to stop off along side Loch Lomond to take in the view! The last image below was taken at one of those spots. My next travel diary will join us on our journey after the below photo, through Scotland towards the Ben Nevis Camping Site where we stayed for a few nights.
